The Cornwall Garden Society’s (CGS) February lectures are by leading camellia expert, Jeremy Wilson.

Jeremy has enjoyed a varied horticultural career that has included tending a Capability Brown wildflower meadow for Cambridge University; managing a large collection of species rhododendrons for English Heritage at Belsay Hall in Northumberland; and planning and designing 10- to 20-acre gardens at private estates in Hampshire and Oxfordshire as Head Gardener.

He now runs his own nursery – Strete Gate Camellias in Devon – which never fails to impress with its collection of more than 500 varieties including 100 types of scented plants.

Jeremy acts as steward and judge for RHS camellia competitions, and has won medals himself at RHS shows in London and Cardiff, as well as at the Malvern Spring Flower Show.

The Secret of Camellias will be his subject on Tuesday 6th February at 7.30pm at the Alverton Hotel in Truro, whilst Scented Plants will be his focus on Wednesday 7th February at 2.30pm at the Shire Hall in Bodmin.

These lectures are free for CGS members. Non-members are welcome to attend to find out more about the Society and donations are gratefully received.

A local nursery will be on hand to tempt attendees with high quality plants for sale.
