The brief to create a garden focused on healing offered us a perfect opportunity to provide a space for reflection, renewal and inner peace.

The Echoes of Tranquillity garden allows for quiet contemplation and stimulates self-healing.

Inspired by the philosophies of Japanese gardens and practices like Shinrin-Yoku (forest bathing), our design emphasises the art of noticing, reflecting and the continuous journey of life.

Every element of our garden promotes mindfulness and making connections with nature.

The balance between hard and soft landscaping creates a basis for this.

The dry riverbed symbolises the continuous flow of our thoughts. A pathway embodies life’s journey. The water feature represents reflection and the gentle sound of trickling water also creates a tranquil atmosphere.

Dense, layered planting is at the heart of our design, which creates depth, movement and texture, and encourages the art of engagement.

Focusing on shades of green – the colour of growth and harmony – the consistent use of this palette helps to create a calming atmosphere.

The sensory experience that our garden offers is designed to ground visitors in the present moment.

The Echoes of Tranquillity Garden has been designed and installed by first-year students on the BSc (Hons) Horticulture (Garden and Landscape Design) degree at the Cornwall College University Centre at The Eden Project.
