Martin PetherickThe CGS is a charity that exists to encourage and improve the science, art and practice of horticulture in all its branches; share knowledge about gardening and Cornwall’s rich garden heritage, and conserve its natural environment.

The many activities available to members are listed here. They include numerous opportunities to visit outstanding – and often, private – gardens and enjoy social events with like-minded enthusiasts. Whether you have green fingers or are a gardening novice, there is something for everyone.

Each year, we provide support for horticulture students and working gardeners in Cornwall through The Pat and Margaret Wells Bursary which, we are proud to administer on behalf of the Wells family. This bursary helps to ensure that the Duchy’s gardens will continue to be tended by appropriately qualified and professional staff in the future.

We are also pleased to share information about The Thistledown Horticultural Bursary, on behalf of Tresco Abbey Garden on the Isles of Scilly, which provides financial support for a wide range of projects in the UK and overseas.

We welcome you to our website and hope that you will find its content a source of constant interest and relevance as we navigate the challenges of gardening in Cornwall in the 21st century.
